17. Use your words
If words are a tool for creating futures, we should use them wisely.
“Use your words” has been a mantra of mine for quite some time. I've heard parents encourage children with the same refrain, especially when the child is perfectly capable of speaking but is held silent due to the emotion of the moment.
I use it as a reminder to myself that language is a building block for the future I hope to create. The conversations I host and hear will become experiences I have and hold onto.
The phrase also reminds me to act with a core virtue of mine, integrity. I'm not perfect but I do strive to always do what I say what I will do.
But as Yoda reminds us:
“Do or do not, there is no try”.
