It is time for the second installment in the alphabetical collection of Power Acronyms.
You can read Power Acronym 16: A.A.A. here.
I think these three B’s serve as a natural compliment to the A’s that come before as they are a series of steps to take toward your own creative endeavor.
After working with a variety of people on an array of projects involving music, writing, community growth, brands, content marketing, businesses, job roles, relationships…the final result is rarely like the start.
There is magic and strength when you simply…
Begin
Often filled with hope for the future, to begin something is to wield the creative power of individual human agency.
Beavers can build dams and elephants can use paint brushes but instincts and training are fundamentally different than the creative potential of the human mind.
Did January 1st 2024 serve as a beginning of something new for you?
Will today?
What is something you are starting today?
Perhaps it has something to do with your Attitude or Approach?
Each day is an opportunity to begin again.
What will yours be?
“Everyone who got to where they are had to begin where they were.” - Richard Paul Evans
Become
I've been podcasting in general for close to 10 years and co-hosting Trucking for Millennials every week since 2019.
When I started co-hosting the podcast I knew nothing about trucking and logistics. I trusted Michael (the other host and owner of PDQ America) and let the guest be the authority while I stayed curious and learned.
This is still largely the case, but now that I have 4 years of experience I'm starting to become more confident in what I'm talking about when it comes to freight brokering and the ins and outs of the industry.
Continual progress is the essence of Becoming.
Becoming is also the messy middle and the real world resistance that our humble beginnings wrestle with. It's in this push and pull that we find strength, a sense of place, and friends along the path.
In the process of becoming, we start to be more like that thing which we originally hoped and imagined for.
“The thing that is really hard, and really amazing, is giving up on being perfect and beginning the work of becoming yourself.” - Anna Quindlen
Build
What does it mean to build, then?
If Beginning and Becoming are primarily individual pursuits, Building directs attention to serving others.
How does your path of progress effect other people?
I'm reminded of this passage in Ecclesiastes:
[7] “I observed yet another example of something meaningless under the sun. [8] This is the case of a man who is all alone, without a child or a brother, yet who works hard to gain as much wealth as he can. But then he asks himself, “Who am I working for? Why am I giving up so much pleasure now?” It is all so meaningless and depressing. [9] Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. [10] If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. [11] Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? [12] A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.”
Ecclesiastes 4:7-12 NLT
What if Robin Hood robbed the rich but never gave to the needy?
It would be a shame if all the good we are capable of stayed within the borders we were comfortable with.
And so we must build.
Not just for ourselves, but so much so everyone can experience a similar sort of abundance.
