Today’s Power Acronym is another three letter initialism, continuing the exercise through the alphabet, E.E.E.

E.E.E. is a personal mission statement that I try to infuse all my writing with.
Power Acronym 70: E.E.E.
Encourage
give support, confidence, or hope to (someone)
I mentioned the amygdala in our previous Power Acronym, and I’m sharing it now because it highlights why encouragement is so important. The brilliant writer Seth Godin has an excellent piece on it called Quieting the Lizard Brain.
I think I’m drawn to encourage others because I regularly have to push myself through fear and doubt. Whether I’m writing, podcasting, or working on leading my team at PDQ America, fear and doubt are present.
You’d think the longer you do something, the easier it becomes, and that’s true to a degree. But it’s also very human to experience what Steven Pressfield calls “The Resistance”.
To encourage someone (or yourself) means to acknowledge the feelings that would keep you in place and do the thing anyway.
To act in the presence of fear is courageous.
Enrich
improve or enhance the quality of
I feel honored when someone asks me for input on how they should phrase something they want to communicate to someone else. It tells me they trust that I will have some insight they will value.
As a writer I’m always looking for ways to communicate something that enhances the quality of someone’s understanding of a subject or provides a different perspective.
This is why I share so many quotes and resources I’ve found valuable in these posts. There are many people who have done great thinking on many things that ail us.
Sometimes enrichment is as simple as enjoying something alongside someone else. The simple act of sharing can go a long way.
Empower
give (someone) the authority or power to do something
Another phrase I often repeat to myself is to “use your words”.
That’s “use” in the physical sense of the word.
As if words were a tool we bring out to get the job done.
You and I both know that empty words aren’t useful.
So it’s important that they lead to action.
So what is there to do?
Tell someone why you love them!
Remind them of their strengths!
Share with them what has helped you!
Offer them a helping hand!
Lead by example, then give them the green light!
These three E’s have stayed with me because I’m still finding new ways for them to show up in my life.
Now it’s your turn.
