I love to learn new things that can help me grow as a person.
330 something days ago I had the desire to learn more about stoicism and Greek philosophy in a systematic way and was searching for resources.
Eventually, I discovered what I was looking for and much more.
What I found was a program that integrated ancient wisdom and modern science created and curated by this guy named Brian Johnson who for the last several years has been reading books from a variety of experts and summarizing them into 6-page / 20-minute audio recordings called Philosophers Notes as well as 1 hour “Master Class” videos that take deeper dives on specific subjects and thousands of +1’s which are 5-minute mini-lessons.
There are currently over 600 Philosopher Notes on dozens of subjects, with a new one released every week.
Here’s a screenshot that will give you an idea of the treasure trove of wisdom contained in the Heroic app where I access them:

As I learned more about what Brian was up to, I realized he wasn’t just some guy selling courses and Heroic (his company) isn't some run-of-the-mill coaching program.
In fact, the app interface was designed by Metalab, the same people behind Slack, Uber, Headspace, Peloton, and other premium services.
Brian told them he wanted to create “The Telsa of Personal Development”.
They succeeded, and what I’ve personally discovered is that…
Heroic is a platform for pursuing your purpose.
I view it that way because not only does Heroic equip users with a ton of ways to learn different things, but Brian and his team also make the ideas from experts in all those domains more approachable and actionable.
Here are screenshots from my app to illustrate what that looks like for me:
I’ll record a video eventually but what you’re seeing above is my daily protocol in the app for “The Big 3” categories of Energy, Work, and Love.
Each day I commit to who I want to be in each category, the virtues I desire to embody, and the actions I will take.
As I complete each task, I swipe the target as complete.
It’s part habit tracker, part to-do list that reinforces and reminds me of what I do when I’m at my best, all backed by science to be effective.
+ They have a social component coming later this year.
The difference between what Heroic has done and other apps is that…
with Heroic, YOU are the algorithm.
And these virtues help guide the way:
Perhaps the best part about committing to a protocol via an app each day is that it only takes a few minutes to do and it focuses my mind on what’s important, rather than what happens to be on my news feed.
It’s helped me a ton and I believe it can help a lot of people so last year I went all in and recently completed the 300-day coaching program to become a Heroic Performance Coach.
